Built in 1924 as a 12-story residential hotel, the steel and brick building with Renaissance and Baroque ornamentation was converted to the prominent Huntington Hotel in 1957. The design direction is a fresh, airy, light infused box. The interior architecture embraces clean lines, luxurious materials and fine detailing. The paving of the pool deck, a clean, white, fine-textured terrazzo, is punctuated with ripples of mosaic ribbons radiating from the apex of the curving stair. These water themed mosaics are carried throughout the spa, serving as a signature element and linking the spaces together.

The furnishings, colors, accessories and art works draw upon the historic Italianate building interiors, and ultimately, on the cultural diversity that formed San Francisco´s character; Victorian, Asian and Italianate.
