The Highlands Inn is a destination resort situated 4 miles south of Carmel on one of the most spectacular spots on the northern California coast.

The client charged the designer with the desire for a world class resort. They wanted a phoenix to rise from the ashes of the existing Scottish-themed resort.

The original resort had been built in 1919 as a day retreat and artist´s colony. Drawing some of the design inspiration from that era, the designers conceived interior design elements to have a strong geometric, which serves as visually strong design images and a memory so strong as to linger in the memories of the guests, creating a longing to return.
